The Novomax – Polarité[s]
The Novomax is a venue dedicated to the practice and broadcast of music. Located in the Max Jacob Centre, it is managed by the Polarité Associaton. Their mission is to help musicians (amateur or professional) with artistic and cultural projects by providing various services from the 4 sectors:
- Artistic support : rehearsal and recording (3 studios);
- Training and cultural activities : guitar lessons, singing, base guitar, drums, computer assisted music, intervention in schools;
- Career support and information : legal information (copyright, stage / disc production...), documentation, project support (fundraising, graphic design, record production, web...);
- Broadcasting : the Novomax concert season, fête de la musique (annual national music festival)...
The Novomax has five rehearsal and recording studios, three classrooms, a hall for the Conservatory of Music and Dramatic Arts and The Club, a modular concert hall that can accommodate between 100 and 390 people.
On the ground floor, The Club can accommodate both group rehearsals and small public performances and concerts. The administrative offices of the the Polaritié Association, the Departmental Centre for Contemporary Music, have been located there since last September.
The façade of the Novomax is open fronted and largely made of glass . A huge convivial lobby welcomes visitors. The building, which is both simple and impressive with its chestnut wood sidings, connects to the Max Jacob Theatre. Its acoustic insulation is particularly elaborate and meets the standards required for BBC performances.
Opening hours
- Studios: from Monday to Thursday 2pm to midnight, Fridays and Saturdays from 2pm to 1am, Sundays from 2pm to 10pm.
- Administration : from Monday to Friday, from 10am to 12pm and from 2pm to 6pm
The Polarité Association is sponsored by the City of Quimper, the Departmental Council of Finistère and the Breton Regional Council.
